Apart from this, I want to give you a quick guide, which is important to know before making a buying decision.

Quick Guide: Hot & Cold AC vs Room Heater – Which Is Best For You?
Points To Consider:
Till 2024, Hot & Cold ACs used to come with BEE 5-star ratings. But from 2025 onwards, all-weather AC models come only with BEE 3-star rating.
So, understand this carefully:
These 3-star Best Hot and Cold ACs start around ₹36,000–₹37,000 and go up to ₹43,000. The 5 Best Hot and Cold AC models I have mentioned here are in the price range of ₹36,000 to ₹42,000.
Whereas a Best 5-Star Split AC (Standard Cooling only AC) is available for ₹40,000–₹45,000. But it is not useful in winters, so in that case, you can buy a Best Oil Filter Room Heater which comes for ₹8000–₹10,000.

Electricity Consumption:
- 1.5 ton Hot and Cold AC models comes with 1500–1800 watt power consumption (load).
- Oil filter heaters are also available in 1000–2000 watt capacity. Oil filter heaters are much better than normal heaters, as they don’t cause dryness problems and don’t burn the room air like traditional heaters.
- So, in winters, the running cost of both will be almost similar.
- A Best 5-Star AC model consumes 40% less energy than a 3-Star AC model. 5-Star ACs come with 1200–1300 watt power consumption. But when run at 24–26 degrees AC temperature, they consume even less power.
- And where the temperature goes above 40°C, 5-Star ACs consume 50–60% less power than 3-Star ACs. The additional ISEER factor becomes important here, as the ISEER value in 3-star AC models is 25% to 30% lower.
- Roughly, a Best 5-Star AC consumes 0.7–0.8 units per hour. Whereas a Best 3-Star AC consumes 40% more, i.e., 1–1.15 units per hour.
Electricity Bill Calculation 5 Star AC vs 3 Star AC (10 hours/day):
- In 5-Star AC:
- 0.8 * 10 * 30 = 240 units/month
- For 5 months = 240 * ₹8 * 5 = ₹9600 (Total bill in summers)
- Note: This is minimum, as calculation is based on 24–26°C AC running temperature. Many people use AC at 20-22°C, so their bill will be higher.
- In 3-Star AC:
- 1.15 * 10 * 30 = 345 units/month
- For 5 months = 345 * ₹8 * 5 = ₹13,800 (Total bill in summers)
- Note: This is also minimum. If climate temperature goes above 40°C (like 44°C), 3-Star ACs take more time to cool the room. And, the bill will be higher than this calculation.
So, in summers:
- Best Hot & Cold AC bill = ₹13,800
- Best 5-Star AC bill = ₹9600
- Electricity bill gap = ₹4200
- Combo: ₹41,000 (5-Star AC model price) + ₹10,000 (Oil Filter Heater price) = ₹51,000
- Best Hot & Cold AC price= ₹38,000
- Initial Price Gap = ₹13,000
- If you buy a Best Hot & Cold AC up to ₹38,000, then it is better. For models priced ₹41,000–₹42,000, the price gap between Combo (5 star AC + Oil Filter Heater) & Hot and Cold AC reduces to ₹9000 only.
Earlier, we calculated the electricity consumption during summer, where the bill difference between a 5-star and a 3-star AC came out to ₹4,200. A Hot & Cold AC will consume ₹4,200 more electricity in one season. In general, 3-star ACs will consume even more electricity than this if the AC runs below 25°C or if the outdoor temperature crosses 40°C. For explanation purposes, let’s use ₹4,200 as the reference amount we’re paying extra when using a Hot & Cold AC instead of a combo..
So, the initial cost of a combo purchase is higher, but that extra amount gets recovered within 2 years. From the third year onward, you start saving ₹4,200 or more annually compared to a Hot & Cold AC.
- If you purchase a Best Hot & Cold AC model priced ₹39,000 or below, then it is better.
- But if AC running time is higher more than 6 hours a day in summer, or in your area the temperature goes above 40–41°C for a month or more, then you should consider a Best 5-Star AC + Oil Filter Heater combo. Because 3-Star ACs have 25–30% lower ISEER value than Best 5-Star models. So they take more load when outdoor temperature is high. Cooling is not effective, and electricity bill comes higher than calculated, if outdoor temperature touches 43-44 degree celcius.
